Nekemte College of Teacher Education is one of the thirteen colleges in the state of Oromia Region. The college is located in Nekemte town, the capital of East Wollega, 330 kilometres away from Addis Abeba to the west. The college is specifically located in Bakke – Jamaa sub-city on the area of 153,000 meter square. Nekemte Teachers College is a leading educational institution in Ethiopia committed to providing high-quality education, fostering research, and serving the community. The construction of NCTE started in 1969 and it was established in 1972 as a teacher training institution. The purpose of the institution is to meet the needs of primary teachers in the country. Thus, since its establishment as a teacher training institute until it was upgraded to a college in 1995, it has graduated 9,967 males and 4,423 females with a total of 14,390 teachers. Since it started training at Diploma level in 1995 until 2014: -Graduated and employed a total of 19,501 males and 13,604 females in the regular, evening, summer, satellite programs of Shambu and Gida centers. In total, it has previously trained 29,734 male and 18,249 female teachers at certificate and diploma and totally 47,983 students were trained and employed. Since 2014 and 2015 we have started training degree program so from next year the college starts contributing undergraduate teachers for the country.
